RHS Eryngium Silver Ghost Seeds 50 Seeds, Hardy Perennial Sea Holly

RHS Eryngium Silver Ghost Seeds by Mr Fothergill’s produce striking architectural plants with dramatic silvery white bracts and spiny cone shaped flower heads. This hardy perennial brings bold texture and long lasting interest to sunny borders, gravel gardens and contemporary planting schemes.

Growing to approximately 60cm in height with a spread of around 30cm, Eryngium giganteum creates upright stems topped with metallic silver blooms that hold their structure well into autumn and even winter. The unique spiny framework makes it a standout feature plant and an excellent addition to cut flower and dried arrangements.

Silver Ghost holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for reliability and garden performance. It is also recognised as Perfect for Pollinators, attracting bees and beneficial insects throughout the flowering season. The seed range is produced by Mr Fothergill’s in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society.

This variety thrives in full sun and well drained soil. It prefers free draining conditions and should not be allowed to become waterlogged in winter. Its structural seed heads add interest long after flowering has finished.

For indoor sowing, sow from January to April in trays of seed compost. Sow thinly and cover lightly with approximately 0.5cm of fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. Place in a cold frame or unheated greenhouse, as germination may be erratic. Seedlings appear in 14 to 35 days.

When large enough to handle, transplant individually into 7.5cm pots. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions. Transplant 30cm apart in flowering position from September to October.

Plants flower from June to October in the following year.
